well guys i have enjoyed my first season in the classic hotrods.
And after a poor start i have had a great time, brum was a good end to the season, the weather made racing interesting but fun, there was some good banter in the pits. (if you got gary started on a subject then banter was in full flow, well done gary). Well done to Nelly who drove really well in the rain and thanks to Carl and all those who made the formula so good. Look forward to seeing you all next year and did any one find out who the driver was in no 21 ?

On the note of pintos I dont think you can outlaw them. Most people cant afford a top spec crossflow. Their just too expensive. Also I believe either engine is just as capable and is fairly matched through the current rules. Not to mention the weight of the pinto anvil. Hope im not going to create an argument. Just my thoughts. Ash

Thanks the boys that come with me are top lads and mad for the classics ,collin is building a escort for next year, but at the moment i won't be building a pinto as they are trying to strangle the power of it.some one commented that at northampton it was 3 pintos in the final agen. well i was winning the race and with a few laps to go my engine failed agen.so may have been a crossflow 1st who knows also had a second, and it was 3 crossflows that had 1 2 3 at aldershot
the pinto is much stronger thats for sure.well this debate will go on and on,but i dont care how fast your car is my gole is to finish in the top ten at the end of the year i'm a blue top now and will have to try a lot harder to get points but i love it
see you at wimbledon.

hi sam it looks like your luck is on the up well done. as daz was saying about pintos i would not rush and get one built as the rules /spec have not been set in stone! the x/flow should have an a6 cam tiwn 45s 36 chokes the pinto should be to super stox spec which will be about 165/175 bhp as the same as x/flows and not with abig valve heads ? if the eng spec does not go back a step it will be the man with the biggest pockets will have the fastest car and that is not what this class is about . all te best for wimbo guys. chr 196

We need to know how you guys want the final for the Retro Ford series to be run ,do you want all the points scorers lined up (highest at the front etc then the non point scorers lined up in normal points order behind ?Also do you want to run this as the first race at Wimbledon then have 2 normal heats to follow?or have the Retro F
ord final then a heat then the meeting final? Please let us know via the website so we can get the grids etc sorted before hand. For those of you who haven,t noticed Nikki has added a seperate page for the Retro Ford points ,

Hi All,,just to reitterate what Nelly has already written we really need as many cars as possible to attend the rest of the meetings this year as a reliable source imforms me the formula is in jeopardy if the grids dont maintain a healthy level (20 car plus) so come on guys try as hard as you can to make the meetings or we are all gonna end up with some expensive toys and nowhere to play,i know there are always going to be times when your cars broke etc (as mine is now) but we,ve gotta try to keep this great formula alive,,

Don,t forget to book in so you get your tickets

All the best Carl 862

I will not be racing at Birmingham on Sat. as although I raced at Buxton, due to shortfall of cars, the front chassis is bent in four places so as those of you who were at buxton noticed it did not want to go round right hand bends, essential for our sport. The anglia is now at george polley motorsport who are accesing the viabilty of repairing the shell and by what means, obviously within the spirit of the rules. Their verdict will dictate my way foreward regard to all the drivers and good racing on sat.

i agree, grading is the best way and the fairist way
not every one is going to agree, the more points you get the better. and further back you go. the best drivers like to start from the back overtaking is what racing is abought.any way i think you are all forgetting what a top
class this is and how much fun it is for me on monday id just like to get some points and finish a race i will be happy well to be honest id like to win a race. wishfull thinking see you all at buxton. sammy

i think everyone is taking it all different ways the reason it has been suggested is so that it encourages more people to the formula its not about who has most money and trying to make it like national hot rods space frame is making it like national hot rods. The reason is to give everyone a fair chance to win which is the aim otherwise it wouldn be competive. Having everyone graded would be good for novices so they get a chance to win or come 2nd or 3 rd and be proud im sure we can all remeber our first wins and it makes you want to race even more

Why do we need a world championship or any championship for that matter? Points is won over the year for the car that has been the most reliable in all the races and as we are racing for charity, there doesnt seem to be much point bolting tyres every 3meetings or so TO WIN[ same 4 lasted all year and still won the points] plus if did want to win the hotrod world and had the money i would do a national, So you wont get my vote! Think of the people that race on a budget and have to live outside racing

Not sure if its the end of the red anglia,Its on the jig and we are trying to straighten the front chassis members. If we cannot get it square it may be possible to cut and shut another front on it or if not the only way will be to spaceframe it. I will not be building up another shell for CHR and if you check out the DVD for Birmingham you will see the reason why?

Re : Carls post about World championship . I like the idea , but i think having the grid positions based on points is a bad idea . There are probably many drivers who through work or other commitments can't make every race and these would be at a disadvantage . If it could be done with some sort of qualifying , it would give everyone a chance . Also wouldn't it be better to try to have this race at a bigger meeting ( like the one with the F2's final ) rather than the last race of the season - bigger crowd for the drivers and another championship for the crowd . Its been sugested that we could have our own world/national championship based on total points achieved in the season, the grid would be formed by putting the highest points scorers at the front down to the lowest at the rear.A trophy has been put on offer and we could do it as the final rtace of the year,I just thought i,d put it on here to get general opinions ,it may help to keep the car count up if we had some sort of championship??? Also if we are going to keep getting problems with lapscoring transponders might be the way to go as all tracks heve a timing loop installed and usually rely on transponders to check on finishing positions etc ,,Please leave your comments and maybe a chat ay Buxton might help to sort it out All the best Carl

hi.i am sorry but i have a couple of questions for the drivers at todays meeting,i must have my say,i dont drive(unless you have a wheel chair race) but have followed the classics now for a couple of years and love it to bits,i just thought this was a none contact sport.may be me but their was plenty of it today,is that real racing,is their any discipline for cars that ram their way through the grid,i wouldnt mention it cus i love the old chevette's but was not happy with the way cars were not delt with.yet again it was overlooked, looks to me like something should be done to prevent that sort of driving.

Anybody who is interested just contact Neil Edwin

Hopefully the classic hot rods will be a huge success over here with the class making its racing debut on Good Friday 10th April. If the interest is anything to go by we should have a good field of cars up and running by mid season.

Peter , I fully understand what you mean and realise why it's set up like this and I really do appreciate Nikki & Carl spending their time on it for no reward . I suggested many times on your old website that people should have to register to be able to post comments - in an effort to stop the bickering , I just happen to think the delay in getting stuff posted might deter people from posting , look how many posts have been put on the other site in the same time this one's been running . Only my opinion . Not a critisism of Nikki or Carls efforts .

Could you put a link in to the " other " forum please, some people probably only use this one , others may only use the other one - As it is , the other board is better if you want a quick answer to technical questions , for people who are building cars - like me or Tim with the ' Tina Mk1 :( classichotrods.hyperboards.com ) Must be better if we get some people using both . I appreciate your efforts with the site and i realise why it's been set up this way . But having to leave a message and have it " vetted " takes too long , so you don't get any real dialogue , also not having specific subject areas makes it hard to follow any thread . Regards Al.

I dont know where the communication broke down either. As for the slagging off, i am affraid it comes with the job, it used to happen to me, comments like whens the website being updated and dont like this and that. It is hard work builing and running a website and takes alot of time, which some people don't appreciate, dont get too disheartened carl and nikki. just shrug it off as i did. keep up the good work.

I don,t know why the old site was closed but the money to cover the fee,s was offered to Pete via Sandra and the reply was that Pete would carry on as before and he would let us know when he wanted the money, what and why it went wrong i dont know, but the money collected etc was used to start the new site ,and there was some form of corruption on the site and this did cause problems on the admin side as it put a virus on Nikkis computor. At the first meeting Nikki wants to know if you want to continue with this site as all we seem to get is complaints and continual slagging off on the other forum Nikki has a lot to do including grids/points etc so if anyone can do better feel free and we,ll close this site,as regards past drivers all photos were lost but Nik is trying to sort it asap

Congratulations on the new site it looks good and is informative, although it would have been easier to have contacted homestead and paid for the other one to continue after I YES I had shut it down, as I did not want to continue paying £12 per month for which i had done for 12 months without having any other involvement in the classics or any recognition. Nothing to do with hackers as you well know! Just a small question but isn't there alot of drivers missing from the past such as B Lee, G Polley, G Bland, M Hufford, I Grayson, A Causier, B Groom, and myself. 4 of these drivers competed in the first ever classics meeting at hednesford. All the best for 2009 cheers ex classic mini 34.

I am disappointed at the yarmouth cancellation, its the only east anglian track we are racing at. With all the travelling us Norfolk boys have to do it helps to have some reasonably local tracks. Was it Spedeworths decision or has someone else pompted them to cancel?

Hi Martin ,cant see that being a problem as Rob Montagners chevette has ford running gear as long as you do it as Al says with regards to engine and suspension

Tim , Glad to hear you're still doing the Cortina . I was asked by the previous owner earlier this week if I knew how you were getting on . I don't think you'd be breaking any rules , The front suspension must retain the original concept , and the the engine position must be the same ( so not further back or lower ) . That's my opinion of the rules , I think there's a Marina being built with Ford Running gear - mentioned at the drivers meeting , so I don't think you'd have any problems . Regards Al.

Hi All
Haven't quite given up on the Tina mk1 CHR yet, I have a couple of questions that you might be able help me out with !
1) Firstly if i convert the running gear to an Escort set up would I infringe the rules?
2) This might not need answering if its no to question 1. There are conversions for crossmembers and the like but they tend to be expensive, my idea does not involve cutting an Escort Xmember in half to get it fit but removing the engine mounts and introducing a steel plate on each side so that the Xmember fits into the Tina's chassis at the correct position and leaving the original mounting points for the Escort running gear?
PS. Site is great and much easier to use.
Cheers Tim

Good luck with the running of this site. I've added a link to this one. I also have an advert with a potential driver looking for a classic on the site.

Well done Nicky.

Any drivers or supporters with retro pictures please let us know rjn@ovaltrack.co.uk as they would be very welcome for the new Oval Track Classic magazine. Issue one will include information on the Classic Hot Rods and hopefully some information on builds, etc.

can all classics drivers contact me and give me your contact details so if there's any problems with the site in future i can let you know what the problem is. Also can you let me know where your from so i can add that to your photo's. I won't be adding other personal info on your photo's this time for security purposes. 2009 fees are covered for the site. When the racing season starts i'll take new photo's of all your cars so i can add everyone to the gallery. hope your all well see you when the season starts. nicky

WELL DONE NIKKI, I can see you have spent a lot of time setting this up and its looking good.
For those who don't know our original web site got corrupted by outsiders and shut down.
Lets hope we can use this correctly and sensibly.
